Today, the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce gave out the second German Economic Award, which encompasses a monetary award of 5,000 euros.
This year, the German Economic Award went to Suwem AS, a children’s furniture manufacturer from Põlva County. The winner made an impression on the jury first and foremost by the fact that the enterprise is represented on foreign markets with its own brand and runs a representative office in Germany.
Another weighty argument in favour of Suwem was the environmental friendliness of the enterprise’s manufacturing process as well as the enterprise’s role as the initiator and frontrunner of the cluster of wood enterprises in Southeast Estonia and the wood competence centre. In addition, the enterprise supports children, local children’s homes and the Estonian Chamber of Disabled People. Thus, “responsibility for the future”, the slogan for this year's award, is visible in the actions of Suwem on several levels.
The German Economic Award encompasses a monetary award of 5,000 euros, which can be used to finance participation at a German trade fair, participation in a conference held in Germany, or to support employees’ training/refresher courses. The prize can also be claimed by using the services of the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce (provision of human resources, seeking for agents, finding new cooperation partners etc.). Both the winner and other finalists are offered a year-long membership of the Chamber of Commerce without a fee.
Twelve enterprises competed for the award. The six finalists elected by the jury were:
Clyde Bergemann Eesti AS
Hekotek AS
MS Balti Trafo OÜ
The Estonian branch of Siemens Osakeyhtiö
Suwem AS
TBD-Biodiscovery OÜ
The aim of the German Economic Award is to promote economic relationships between Germany and Estonia, and to motivate small and medium-sized enterprises to create business connections with German enterprises.
The German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce operating in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania is a part of a network uniting German Foreign Chambers of Commerce. It is the only international chamber of commerce represented in all three Baltic states. The chamber of commerce has 385 members.
